Police find missing 66-year-old Independence man who may have dementia

Update: Police said Joseph Lopez has been found safe.

Independence police are looking for a 66-year-old missing man.

Joseph Lopez has been missing since Monday morning, according to an Independence Police Silver Advisory. He is 5 foot 6 and 140 pounds, according to police. Police also said he has black hair and brown eyes.

Lopez was last seen at 18801 East 39th Street South in Independence in the area of the Independence Center shopping mall, according to police.

Police said Lopez may be showing signs of Alzheimer’s or dementia, but he has not been formally diagnosed. Lopez does not own a vehicle, according to police.

Lopez was released from an area hospital last Friday, according to police. The statement said he has medical issues but did not specify his conditions.
