Car left roadway, killed pedestrian on sidewalk near Winner Road, police say

A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle near Winner Road and Ewing Avenue in Kansas City on Wednesday, according to a news release from Kansas City Police Sgt. Phillip DiMartino.

A preliminary investigation revealed that just after 1 p.m., a white Dodge Challenger traveling west on Winner Road left the roadway and went onto the sidewalk, striking a pedestrian, according to the news release.

The Dodge continued, going through a fence and down a grassy embankment, according to the news release. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was uninjured.

The death is Kansas City’s 34th traffic fatality in 2025, compared to 48 at the same time last year, according to the news release.
