Driver killed by own pickup truck while getting fuel at Kansas City gas station
A driver died after being run over by their pickup truck while getting fuel at a gas station on Kansas City’s East Side Sunday afternoon, a police spokesman said.
The crash occurred about 1:40 p.m. Sunday at the Fast Stop at 7100 Eastwood Trafficway, said Capt. Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed the driver had parked a green Ford F-150 pickup in a parking space in front of the convenience store.
The driver was getting fuel when the pickup truck began to roll backwards out of the parking space, Becchina said.
The driver attempted to get into the moving pickup truck on the passenger side, but fell and was run over by the Ford, Becchina said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver’s death is the 33rd traffic fatality this year, compared to 48 traffic deaths by this time last year.
The investigation is ongoing.
