A Thursday night shooting in Independence left one person dead and two injured, one critically, according to a news release from Independence Police Department officer Bryan Conley.

Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of South Brookside Avenue just before midnight, according to the release. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

In an initial release to media, Independence police initially listed the incident as a shooting. There was no mention of a possible homicide. Police did not confirm that someone had been killed until a new release was sent out about 11 hours later.

Independence police have not given the genders or ages of the people involved in the shooting. The news release did not indicate whether officers have identified a subject in the case.
