A motorcyclist died in a fiery crash after colliding with a parked subcompact SUV Tuesday night in Independence, a police spokesman said.
The crash occurred about 10:10 p.m. near East 44th Terrace and South Phelps Road, said Sgt. Jeff Buck with the Independence Police Department.
According to a preliminary investigation, the motorcyclist was riding a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on 44th Terrace from Phelps Road. The rider veered into the westbound lanes and crashed into a parked 2016 Kia Soul, Buck said.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to burst into flames.
