SUV drives into KC Northland auto parts store, store temporarily closed
An SUV drove into an O’Reilly Auto Parts building in Kansas City’s Northland Tuesday afternoon, damaging the structural integrity of the building, according to fire department officials.
Firefighters responded to a reported car into the building near 1700 Northeast Parvin Road, according to Kansas City Fire Department spokesperson Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
At 12:20 p.m., a single vehicle struck the building, causing significant damage, he said. The driver was transported to the hospital for evaluation out of precaution.
No other injuries were reported in the incident, Hopkins said.
The city’s dangerous buildings department was ordered to evaluate the building. This department is called when there are concerns about the structural integrity of a building. The dangerous buildings department decides or recommends what needs to occur to ensure the public’s safety, Hopkins said.
The store, located in a building shared with other businesses, had bracing added and covered the hole until it can be repaired, Hopkins said.
Calls to the store from The Star were not answered.
