Pedestrian crossing street hit and killed by pickup truck near Prospect Avenue

Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian Thursday afternoon near 31st Street and Prospect Avenue, Kansas City Police Department Capt. Jake Becchina said in a press release.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a white Ford F250 pickup pulling a trailer was traveling southbound on Prospect Avenue before turning eastbound on 31st Street, according to the press release.

A pedestrian crossing a marked crosswalk was struck as the Ford turned, knocking down the pedestrian and running over them, according to the press release.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Becchina said. The four occupants of the Ford were uninjured.

Kansas City police continue to investigate the incident, including whether impairment was a factor in the crash, according to the press release.

The death marks the 27th vehicular crash fatality of the year, compared to 46 at the same time in 2024, Becchina said.
