Leawood man indicted on more counts of sexual assault during KC spa massages
A Jackson County grand jury has indicted a Leawood man on a total of five counts of second-degree sodomy for allegedly assaulting women during massages at a Kansas City spa.
Gui Jin Jiang, 65 — who already faced two of those counts for alleged assaults in May 2022 and August 2023 — was indicted late last week on three more, according to an online court database.
The superseding indictment, filed Thursday, said the new counts are related to reported assaults in December 2022 and April 2023.
The Star first wrote in late February about the allegations against Jiang. At that time, he was charged with the two counts of second-degree sodomy after two women reported he sexually assaulted them during massages at Fusion Spa, 12931 Stateline Road.
The two women said once they learned they weren’t alone in what they say they experienced, they leaned on each other for support.
At the time of that article, a total of six women had accused Jiang of abuse — five of them reported the incidents to Kansas City police. The sixth woman told the business what had happened. The owner of the spa was Jiang’s wife; the two are now divorced.
Jiang told police at one point that he had never assaulted a woman during a massage.
After that initial article, three more women came forward alleging Jiang had also assaulted them during massages. At least one of those women reported her alleged assault to police. In total, nine women have accused Jiang of sexually assaulting them during a massage.
One of the recent women to come forward said she was assaulted during a massage in 2017, which is the earliest incident in the timeline of accusations. Before her allegations, the incidents had occurred — according to the women — from January 2021 to August 2023.
Information obtained by The Star earlier this year shows that Jiang has never been a licensed therapist with the Missouri Board of Therapeutic Massage. He told police, records show, that the spa knew he didn’t have a license.
Jiang is scheduled for a court hearing next month.
