Robert Heacock out as Independence city manager

Robert Heacock, Independence’s city manager since 2004, no longer holds that position, Independence Mayor Eileen Weir announced Tuesday in a written statement.

The city had no further comment on his leaving.

The city council appointed Deputy City Manager John Pinch as acting city manager.

Prior to becoming city manager, Heacock served as acting city manager in 2004 and assistant city manager in 1998.

During Heacock’s tenure, Independence continued to develop the community’s southeast side by building the Independence Events Center, home of the minor league Missouri Mavericks hockey team, and coordinating the development of the Crackerneck Creek retail and restaurant district, which includes the Bass Pro Shops store.

He joined the Independence staff as assistant city manager in 1998 after serving three years as Harrisonville city administrator.
