As students filed into Central Middle School on Monday morning, the first day of school for the district, they were greeted by KC Wolf, Chiefs cheerleaders, the Rumble and City Year Kansas City AmeriCorps members. With a plan to get the school year started on a positive note, they offered students a "high-five" as they passed through the greeters.

The special greeting marked the start of City Year Kansas City’s pilot program in two Kansas City schools -- Central Middle School and the Ewing Marion Kauffman School. City Year AmeriCorps members will serve full-time in the schools to provide tutoring and in-class support, plus extended day programs.
