Strawberry fields are now open around Kansas City. Where to pick fruit
It’s strawberry season.
You’ve seen the dozens of farmers’ markets around Kansas City with their fresh produce, and now you can go pick your own fruits at farmstands across the area.
Strawberries are sprouting in late spring, and they’re ripe for picking at five regional locations, all within an hour of Kansas City. The Star put together a guide of where you can pick your fresh strawberries from nearby farms in Kansas and Missouri.
Be sure to pick bright strawberries from your smoothies, jam or other creations. The redder they are, the better they are.
The Fun Farm
Where: 650 N. Jefferson St. in Kearney, Missouri
When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday
KC Berry Fest opened Saturday, May 10, at The Fun Farm, and strawberries are on the list at this family-friendly farm in Kearney, 30 minutes north of Kansas City. Once you’re done picking strawberries, you can say hi to barnyard animals, ride down a giant slide, mine gemstones and get the perfect family farm photo.
You have to buy a ticket to get into The Fun Farm. Tickets cost $22.95 online and $27.95 in person; tickets are required for everyone ages 2 and older. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
Historic Weston Orchard & Vineyard
Where: 18545 County Road H in Weston, Missouri
When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, weather permitting
May is strawberry month at the Historic Weston Orchard & Vineyard, a 38-minute drive northwest from Kansas City. Daily admission costs $5 per person. If you plan on coming more than once, you can buy individual season passes for $25 per person or a family pass for $50, which includes two adults and all household children.
Once inside, you can pick as many strawberries as you want with bags provided by the vineyard. All picked produce is weighed and priced per pound.
Admission to the vineyard also includes access to the Cider Bar, kid play zones and other amenities inside. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
Gieringer’s Family Orchard & Berry Farm
Where: 39345 W. 183rd St. in Edgerton, Kansas
When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, weather permitting
Over 5 acres of strawberries lie at Gieringer’s Family Orchard & Berry Farm, 46 minutes south of Kansas City. You have to buy a field access pass to get to the strawberry fields, and those cost $3.50 for everyone ages 2 and older.
Guests can be individual season passes for $9 or all-access passes for $25, which give guests access to pick their own fruits during the spring, summer and fall.
The strawberries cost $4.79 per pound and containers cost 75 cents. You can’t bring your own containers inside for food safety reasons. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
After you have your strawberries, you can take your children to the play area while you relax in the shade.

Stone Briar Farms
Where: 9035 Edgerton Road in De Soto, Kansas
When: Hours vary depending on the weather. Check their social media pages for more information.
Strawberries at Stone Briar Farms cost $4.50 per pound and each paying guest gets one free picking container. Additional containers costs 75 cents. The farm is 37 minutes west of Kansas City and is cash only. You don’t need to book an appointment for the farm, but you do need to leave your pets at home.
The farm announces picking times on its social media pages, website calendar and email newsletter.
Cash is preferred at Stone Briar Farms, but they also take Venmo payments.
Wohletz Farm U-Pick Strawberry Patch
Where: 1831 N. 1100 Road in Lawrence, Kansas
When: Times vary, check their website to find availability
The Wohletz Farm U-Pick Strawberry Patch in Jayhawk territory requires visitors to sign up for a time to pick strawberries. You can sign up for a spot online or sign up for their email list or call 785-331-3468 to find times.
Once you have a time booked, you can pick all the strawberries your heart desires at this farm 48 minutes west of Kansas City. Strawberries are priced at $3.99 per pound, and the farm provides boxes for your picked strawberries.
The farm only accepts cash and checks.
