Here’s the route memorial procession for slain KC firefighter-paramedic will take

A memorial procession Friday will carry the remains of Kansas City firefighter-paramedic Graham Hoffman through the city and past Station 42, Hoffman’s last assignment.

Hoffman, who was fatally stabbed while transporting a patient to an area hospital Sunday, will be memorialized during services Friday.

The procession is set to begin at 3 p.m., starting at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 1600 State Route 291, in Liberty. Prior to the procession, a public visitation will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a funeral service will take place from 1-2:30 p.m.

The Kansas City Fire Department announced Thursday that the procession route will go from the church south on Interstate 35 and U.S. 71 to the department’s Station 42 in southeast Kansas City. The procession will then proceed north on Interstate 435 to White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone.

City officials said the downtown skyline would be illuminated red on Friday night in honor of Hoffman.

Hoffman was stabbed as he and another paramedic were taking a woman, identified as Shanetta Bossell, to an area hospital in an ambulance. Bossell allegedly stabbed Hoffman in the heart during the trip, attempted to drive away in the ambulance and bit a police officer as he attempted to take her into custody.

Hoffman was taken to a hospital for treatment but eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Bossell has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest in the death of Hoffman in Clay County.
