One person dead after hit-and-run in Kansas City Saturday night

One person is dead after a hit and run Saturday night in Kansas City.

A cyclist was traveling east on 37th Street near Cleveland Avenue just before midnight when they failed to stop at a stop sign and were hit at an intersection, according to Sgt. Jake Becchina, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

The vehicle, described as an unknown dark colored car, was traveling south on Cleveland and left the scene without stopping, according to Becchina. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident marks the 19th fatality this year, compared to 38 this time last year, according to data tracked by the police department. The investigation is ongoing.
