Missing KCK teen’s remains identified 52 years after his body was found
Human remains found over half a century ago have been identified as a teen who disappeared from Kansas City, Kansas, in the 1970s, investigators said Tuesday.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and Anderson County Sheriff’s Office identified remains found near Garnett, Kansas, in April 1973 as Jimmy Allen Dollison, 16.
During an autopsy in 1973, a coroner ruled Dollison’s manner of death was a homicide due to signs of trauma, the KBI said in a news release.
But for 52 years, his identity was unknown.
Dollison disappeared in the fall of 1972. His parents reported him missing but the family never learned what happened to him, the KBI said.
In 2024, forensic investigators at Othram extracted DNA from the remains to create a profile for genetic testing, the KBI said.
“This advanced testing… attempts to uncover family relationships in order to identify any living relatives of the person who is unidentified,” the KBI said in a news release.
In early 2025, the KBI learned that the genetic testing identified relatives of the unidentified remains. Investigators interviewed siblings and collected DNA from a sibling for comparison. This led investigators to identify the remains as Dollison.
Dollison’s remains found
Dollison’s remains were found three miles southeast of Garnett off 1550 Road. According to the KBI, he was found wearing a brown corduroy jacket, a green long-sleeved buttoned shirt, jeans, a black leather belt with a large belt buckle, brown hiking boots and a navy stocking cap.
Dollison was also wearing two gold rings with crosses, a ring with the number “78” and a silver chain with a large cross.
Over the years, many attempts were made to identify Dollison’s remains and learn what happened to him, the KBI said.
The KBI and Anderson County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the circumstances of Dollison’s death.
Anyone who has information about the disappearance or murder of Dollison is asked to call the KBI at 1-800-572-7463, or report tips online at www.kbi.ks.gov/sar.
