Overland Park police cited a driver who allegedly topped 100 mph in a 45 mph zone along West 135th Street near Nall Avenue Friday.

The driver’s excuse for the speed was that he “had to use the restroom,” said Officer John Lacy, a spokesman for the Overland Park Police Department. The driver was issued a citation with a $590 fine, he said.

A photo the department posted on social media Friday showed a traffic speed device that registered the driver hitting 104 mph.

“Please slow down!” the department wrote.
