Police are investigating gunshots fired between two vehicles in the area of northbound Interstate 470 and Northeast Lakewood Way in Lee’s Summit on Friday afternoon.

In a statement, Lee’s Summit police said they were called to the area around 12:45 p.m. and that investigators determined occupants of two vehicles had exchanged gunfire. The shots did not result in any injuries, they said.

Police took the drivers of both vehicles into custody after a crash at a different location, the statement said.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 470 were closed in the area for a brief period Friday afternoon, police said.

More information about the incident was not immediately available Friday afternoon.

Independence police said a large police presence near the intersection of Highway 40 and Valley View Parkway was connected to the incident.
