A Drexel firefighter died after he and his wife were struck by a vehicle that crashed into a Louisburg business they were inside Tuesday.

Louisburg police said they were called to a building that houses a hair salon and office space in the 900 block of West Amity Street around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after a truck left the road and crashed into the building.

Two people who were in the office area were hit as the vehicle smashed through the building, came out the other side and struck another vehicle, police said.

The Drexel Police Department identified the two victims in the crash as Anthony and Devin Juarez. The two were taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, and Anthony Juarez died later Tuesday, law enforcement said. Devin Juarez was expected to recover from her injuries.

The department said Anthony Juarez had been a member of the Drexel Fire Department for the last nine years.

“Anthony was not only beloved by his fire department teammates, but he was also a beloved member of the Drexel community,” the department said. “Anthony and his band, ‘68 Overpass,’ were frequent performers at our annual Pumpkin Fest, as well as other local venues. Please keep the Juarez family in your prayers as they attempt to navigate this difficult circumstance in which they find themselves.”

The driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Captain David Sander, with the Louisburg Police Department, said the cause of the crash is still being investigated.

“That is something we’re still investigating, trying to get some idea on,” he said. “We haven’t ruled anything out, whether it’s medical or other things yet.”
