A Wednesday morning manhunt came up empty for the Kansas Highway Patrol, after a person driving an allegedly stolen car ran to the woods to escape capture, authorities said.

At 8:30 a.m., a trooper was making a traffic stop on interstate highway I-35, north of I-635, on a vehicle that was reported stolen, according to Kansas Highway Patrol spokesperson Tiffany Baylark.

The driver allegedly fled on foot as Mission police and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the highway patrol’s manhunt.

The driver of the vehicle was never captured, however, and their identity remains unknown.
