One person is dead after a house fire in Kansas City Saturday night.

Firefighters responded around 11:30 p.m. to the 1600 block of Bristol Avenue where they reported heavy fire from a two-story residence, according to Kansas City Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

One occupant, the initial caller, was able to escape, but an immobile 65-year-old man was stuck inside and died. The fire was brought under control just after midnight and the survivor was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, according to Hopkins.

The Kansas City Police Department bomb and arson squad will investigate due to the fatality.
