Crews from multiple agencies fight 2-alarm Overland Park fire that killed two dogs
An Overland Park fourplex fire, which required crews from multiple fire departments to battle the blaze, killed two dogs and displaced tenants of several units, authorities say.
Crews from Overland Park, Lenexa and Olathe were called to the building fire at West 116th Terrace and Bluejacket Street just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to Overland Park fire spokesperson Jason Rhodes.
Heavy smoke and fire were seen coming out of the two-story quadplex when units first arrived. Crews immediately attacked the flames while searching the residence for occupants. A second alarm was called for additional crews to assist, Rhodes said.
A dead dog was found in the unit where the fire started, while another dog was missing and later found dead, he said. No other injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
It took approximately 50 minutes for crews to get the fire under control. The unit where the fire started suffered the most damage, according to authorities. The adjoining unit suffered moderate damage, with residents from both units being displaced, Rhodes said.
