Clay County detectives are investigating the death of an inmate in the county detention center.

Kenneth E. Scott, 63, was found unresponsive Thursday morning during routine cell checks, according to Sarah Boyd, public relations manager for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

On-site medical staff attempted to resuscitate Scott while an ambulance was on the way, but he was declared dead around 8 a.m.

According to Boyd, Scott’s death seems to be the result of natural causes. He had been held since Nov. 19 for two counts of first-degree robbery for cases in Liberty and North Kansas City.

Scott’s death remains under investigation.
