The jury trial for a Kansas City mother whose 5-year-old son died after falling from a 17th-story window has been moved to June 23.

Grayson O’Connor was found dead in the alleyway behind the Grand Boulevard Lofts in downtown Kansas City around 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 27, 2023. His mother Corrinne O’Connor, 28, was charged the same day with felony child endangerment resulting in the death of a child.

Responding officers noticed an open window on the 17th floor and went to Corrinne O’Connor’s apartment, where she told them her son had gone out the window, court documents read. Corrinne did not report the fall to 911 and had allegedly removed safety devices that would have prevented the window from opening fully, according to court records.

O’Connor’s neighbors previously told The Star that they had seen and reported warning signs of neglect and abuse throughout the years Corrinne and Grayson had lived in the building. A Star analysis of police records found that police were called to the apartment at least eight times since 2018, and that Grayson had been temporarily removed from his mother’s custody at least once before.

Corrinne O’Connor remains in the Jackson County Detention Center on a $300,000 bond. Her trial was previously set for Jan. 13 and was expected to last for five days.

O’Connor was indicted by a grand jury in March 2024. If convicted, she could face life in prison.
