Boil water advisory in Kansas City, Kansas canceled Saturday. Here’s what caused it
A boil water advisory for parts of Kansas City, Kansas has been canceled Saturday, officials said.
The advisory was issued as a precaution Friday after a waterline break caused pressure loss in a localized area, the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities said in a statement.
Only customers in the following area were anticipated to be affected: Freeman Avenue south to Riverview, and 9th Street west to 18th Street.
There is no evidence of bacterial contamination in the water supply and all conditions that may have posed a potential risk of contamination are resolved, the board said in an email.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment confirmed the water was safe after comprehensive testing, the utility board said in a news release.
What should you do after boil advisory?
In a news release, the utility board provided extra steps for the public to take in order to ensure their water is safe:
- Flush your plumbing: Run cold water from all faucets for at least 5 minutes.
- Discard ice: If you have an automatic ice maker, throw away the first batch of ice and clean the ice bin.
- Replace or clean filters: Replace any water filters in faucets, refrigerators, or appliances following the manufacturer’s instructions.
The utility board said in a statement that if anyone has questions about the advisory, they can contact the BPU Customer Service at 913-573-9190 or the Kansas Department of Health and Environment at 785-296-5514.
