Lenexa man sues Worlds of Fun, alleging employee hit, injured him: Court documents
A Lenexa man has filed a lawsuit against Worlds of Fun, alleging that an employee assaulted him during a visit to the amusement park.
Joseph Rendon alleges that the employee “violently attacked and punched him” while Rendon was at Worlds of Fun on September 30, 2023.
Along with Worlds of Fun, the lawsuit also names the employee who allegedly assaulted Rendon, as well as Worlds of Fun parent companies Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, Millennium Operations and Magnum Management Corporation.
Rendon’s lawsuit alleges that the attack was unprovoked, and that he was seriously injured as a result. He alleges that the park was negligent in allowing the assault to happen, that they did not properly train the employee to interact safely with customers and that they are liable for any damage done.
The lawsuit does not go into detail about the nature of the alleged attack, or the injuries that Rendon is alleging he suffered. Neither Worlds of Fun nor attorneys for Rendon responded to requests for comment.
Rendon plans to seek at least $25,000 in damages from the park, according to the lawsuit.
Worlds of Fun faced criticism last year after a park worker removed Hadil Alqarini of Blue Springs from a roller coaster because she refused to remove her hijab. Alqarini said the worker initially told her the hijab, which she wears for religious reasons, was a ride safety violation.
The park later issued Alqarini an apology for the incident, which she has publicly decried as racist and said will prevent her from wanting to return to Worlds of Fun in the future.
Worlds of Fun also contended with backlash from maintenance workers who authorized a strike at the end of the 2024 operating season, citing ride safety issues, surprise job duty swaps and poor base pay.
The park signed a renegotiated three-year contract with the maintenance workers on Oct. 23.
