Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue relives Brittany Mahomes’ best game-day style moments
Brittany Mahomes told her Instagram followers Wednesday that she’s packing for New Orleans. Deciding what clothes to take is no easy task for one of the most recognizable WAGS in the NFL who will be photographed hundreds of times over the coming days.
She made big headlines of her own during last year’s Super Bowl week as media from around the world interviewed her husband, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, in Las Vegas.
That’s when Sports Illustrated announced Mahomes, co-owner of the KC Current, would appear in its famous Swimsuit Issue and shared pictures from the tropical photo shoot.
Before this year’s Super Bowl, Sports Illustrated has reviewed its rookie model’s “most impressive sidelines fashion moments” of the season, from beautiful custom coats and a trendy suit to elaborate hairstyles.
Keep in mind that Mahomes was pregnant with her third child all season and on occasion opted for the comfort of an oversized T-shirt. She managed to elevate even the most laid-back looks with red cowboy boots here and a cute child on her hip there.
No surprise that the outfit she wore the last time she was in New Orleans for a game made the magazine’s cut.
The magazine dubbed the Chiefs-red Norma Kamali latex outfit she wore to the “Monday Night Football” game in October her “Oops! ... I Did It Again” moment.
The shiny red ensemble reminded people of the leather catsuit Spears wore in the song’s music video.
Speaking of the “other” Britney/Brittany ...
“Going with all denim during the Chiefs game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 4, which they won 30-24, Mahomes delivered a very ‘90s-inspired look we still can’t get enough of,” SI wrote.
“This consisted of a custom oversized denim jacket with the name ‘Mahomes’ and the number 15 etched on the back like a jersey and extra baggy jeans from Dario ($295) with the number 15 on one of the back pockets.”
It might have also reminded some people of this.
How did we miss all these homages to the ‘90s?
Sports Illustrated singled out the striped Bottega Veneta jacket and trousers Mahomes wore to the Nov. 17 game against the Bills, the first loss of the season, avenged Sunday. The look had “corpcore” vibes, a fresh take on 9-to-5 office wear of the ‘90s.
The magazine said Mahomes “looked totally sophisticated in her pantsuit and pretty bow half-up, half-down hairstyle ... the beloved WAG was the picture of elegance on the field. And of course, she got her pop of red in with a small quilted handbag.”
Laurabeth Cabott of Laurabeth Artistry in Kansas City curled and pinned Mahomes’ long, blonde hair into a perky bow on the back of her head. “The hair bow needed a spot on the timeline,” Cabott wrote on Instagram.
A couple of coats earned a shoutout from SI, including the long glossy trench ($4,695, Dolce & Gabbana) Mahomes wore to the Chargers game in December.
“One of Mahomes’ most recent game-day looks is one of our favorites, as it featured so many special details,” SI wrote of what Mahomes wore to the Texans game on Dec. 21.
“Wearing a custom cream-colored wool trench coat featuring embroidery from Lefty’s Right Mind, the 29-year-old rocked her children’s names — Sterling, Bronze and ‘baby girl’ for her unborn daughter — along with the number 15 and other football-inspired designs.”
Mahomes delivered her and Patrick’s third child, Golden Raye, on Jan. 12. Fans were surprised to see her at the playoff game against the Texans just six days after giving birth.
“Decked out in custom Chiefs gear, of course, she kept warm by wearing an oversized beige coat with a belt and the number 15 on each side of the pockets,” noted Sports Illustrated. “She completed the look with red pants and the Arcadie matelassé nappa leather mini-bag from Miu Miu ($2,500).”
The magazine didn’t mention the outfit that made jaws drop when Mahomes appeared at the Bengals game in September.
She looked like she’d stepped off a runway in a vintage black Chanel minidress, Chanel loafers ($1,360) and pearl necklace — with her hair in a rare updo.
(We still think she should wear her hair up more often.)
