Kansas City Streetcar to suspend service again. Here’s when and which roads will close
The KC Streetcar will stop running for two weeks, from Monday, Jan. 27, to Monday, Feb. 10. The shutdown will allow workers to tie the riverfront extension to the rest of the line’s electrical system and rails, and construct new stops and tracks in the River Market.
During this time, RideKC buses will carry passengers on the streetcar route. The free Streetcar Link bus will run every 15-20 minutes and stop at most of the streetcar stops.

Here are additional updates on streetcar construction in Kansas City.
Road closures in River Market
Some intersections in the River Market will close to accommodate construction of the riverfront extension.
Here are the traffic disruptions, according to RideKC:
Through April, Grand Boulevard is closed between 2nd Street and 3rd Street. Access to Chinatown Market will be available through Walnut Street and 2nd Street.
From Jan. 27 to Feb. 10, 3rd Street is closed from Grand Boulevard to Walnut Street, including the intersection of 3rd Street and Grand Boulevard.
From Jan. 27 to Feb. 10, westbound traffic on 3rd Street will be closed from Oak Street to Grand Boulevard. City Market access will remain.
In addition, the Grand Boulevard Bridge that leads from the River Market to Berkley Riverfront Park will close for a month and a half in early spring, late February or early March through late April, according to the website.
The bridge was blocked off for streetcar construction for two months in fall 2024. The streetcar authority said they are working with the KC Current on alternative routes to and from events at CPKC Stadium, the Star previously reported.
Streetcars driving on Main Street in Midtown
Testing began the week of Jan. 13 on the Main Street extension, beginning six months of testing and training before the streetcar opens to the public.
First, a cart ran on the midtown streetcar lines and made sure there was enough clearance for the vehicles. Now, the vehicles will traverse the track from Union Station to UMKC.
