Winter weather advisory issued Thursday night for areas south of Kansas City

A winter weather advisory has been issuedfor Thursday evening into Friday morning for areas south of Kansas City, where there’s a 70% chance of snow.

The advisory starts at 5 p.m. Thursday ends at 9 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Cities including Ottawa, Sedalia, Butler, Columbia and Jefferson City can expect a light snow, along with most of central and west central Missouri and southeastern Kansas.

Southern Missouri could see up to 3 inches of snow, according to the NWS. The Kansas City metro area could see up to 1/2 inch of snow as the storm system tapers off to the north.

Slippery road conditions are expected in the snowfall area, according to the NWS.
