Longtime Jackson County employee killed by sliding dump truck working in winter storm
A longtime Jackson County employee died Sunday when he was hit by a county dump truck sliding on the road while the man was helping with snow removal during the winter storm that pummeled Kansas City this weekend.
The fatal wreck happened in in unincorporated Blue Summit shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
A statement from Jackson County identified the employee as Everett Carter, 61, who had worked for the county for 40 years. Carter was performing snow removal operations in the area, the statement said.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the dump truck had stopped to let Carter out. The truck then slid and struck Carter and a parked car.
Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the statement, Jackson County Executive Frank White Jr. called the incident a “heartbreaking loss”.
“Everett Carter dedicated four decades of his life to serving our community with pride and professionalism. We will forever be grateful for his service and deeply miss his presence,” White said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”
County snow removal crews were pulled from operations after the incident but resumed Monday morning.
