Many schools, courts, and businesses are closed, some through Tuesday. Here’s the list
After this weekend’s blizzard subsided, frigid temperatures arrived in the Kansas City metro, causing many schools, businesses, and government buildings to close.
Several inches of snow, ice and gusty winds hit the Kansas City area Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, crews are continuing to work to clear the roads as temperatures sits near zero with negative wind chills.
What KC area schools have snow days?
These K-12 schools have announced closures or a virtual learning day, with most schools closed or running virtual learning plans through Tuesday:
- Archie Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Blue Springs Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Blue Valley School District are closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Center School District doing virtual learning Monday and Tuesday.
- DeSoto schools, Unified School District 232, are closed Monday and Tuesday. Monday was already a day off for students, but employees didn’t have to report either.
- Fort Leavenworth schools, USD 207, is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Fort Osage will have a virtual day Tuesday.
- Gardner Edgerton 231 School District are closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Grain Valley Schools are closed Monday. Students are doing virtual learning Tuesday.
- Grandview C-4 School District is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Harrisonville Schools are closed Monday. Students are doing virtual learning Tuesday.
- Hickman Mills C-1 School District is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Holden R-3 School District is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Independence School District is closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Kansas City, Kansas School District is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Kansas City Public Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Kearney School District is closed Monday. Students are doing virtual learning Tuesday.
- KIPP Kansas City is closed Monday. Students are doing virtual learning Tuesday.
- Lansing USD 469 is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Leavenworth Unified School District is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Liberty Public Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday.
- North Kansas City School District is closed Monday and will have virtual class Tuesday.
- Olathe Public Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Park Hill School District is enacting its first virtual learning day Monday and Tuesday.
- Pleasant Hill R-3 will have a virtual day Tuesday.
- Pembroke Hill is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Piper USD 203 is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Shawnee Mission School District is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Smithville School District is closed Monday and will have a virtual day Tuesday.
- Spring Hill Schools is closed Monday and Tuesday.
Tonganoxie USD 464 will be closed Tuesday.
These colleges and universities have also closed their campuses.
- Kansas City Art Institute is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Johnson County Community College is closed Monday and Tuesday.
Metropolitan Community College is closed Monday and Tuesday across all campuses.
- Park University is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- UCM’s Lee’s Summit and Warrensburg campuses are closed Monday.
- UMKC is still on holiday break for most classes, but its libraries and other facilities are operating remotely Monday and Tuesday.
KC attractions, nonprofits and government buildings closed
- Bonner Springs City Library is closed Monday
- Clay County courts and municipal offices are closed Monday.
- Harry S. Truman Library & Museum is closed Monday and will open at noon Tuesday.
- The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City is closed Monday, except for its fitness facilities, which open at noon. The J reopens Tuesday, though its Child Development Center is closed and its Heritage programming will not run.
- Kansas City Public Library is closed Monday and reopens Tuesday at 11 a.m.
- The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium is closed Monday.
- The Independence Municipal Court is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Independence parks buildings are closed Tuesday. City Hall and utilities buildings will be open.
- The Jackson County Municipal Court is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- National WWI Museum and Memorial is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- State offices in Shawnee County is closed Tuesday.
- The Olathe Community Center is closed Monday.
- The Olathe Municipal Court is closed Monday, with some remote help available.
- The Olathe Public Library is closed Monday.
- The Parkville Living Center is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- The Powell Community Center in Mission is closed Monday and reopens Tuesday at 9 a.m.
- The Raytown Municipal Court is closed Monday.
- The Unified Government of Kansas City, Kansas, and Wyandotte County will close its offices Monday and Tuesday.
- The Veterans Community Project is closed Monday.
The 16th Judicial Circuit is closed Monday and Tuesday.
Local Businesses closed
- Betty Rae’s Ice Cream closed all Kansas City area locations Monday. All KC area locations reopen at noon Tuesday, and all customers will recieve a free cup of hot chocolate.
- Brown and Loe is closed Monday.
- Café Cà Phê is closed Monday.
Café Corazón is closed Monday.
- Donutology is closed Monday.
- Filling Station Coffee is closed Monday
- French Custard is closed Monday.
- Hemma Hemma is closed through Tuesday, Jan. 7.
- Jack Stack locations are closed Monday.
- Little Store on Knox is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Made in KC closed its Lenexa location Monday.
- McLain’s is closed Monday and reopens Tuesday at 8 a.m.
- Messenger Coffee closed its 11624 Grand and 4771 Jefferson locations Monday.
- Mildred’s is closed Monday.
- Parkville Coffee House is closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Rochester is closed Monday and reopens Tuesday at 9 a.m.
- Second Best Coffee is closed Monday.
