A Monday morning street race between two vehicles on Wornall Road ended with the deaths of two uninvolved people.

A black Chrysler 300 and a silver Dodge Charger were allegedly street racing southbound on Wornall from 99th Street at approximately 10:25 a.m., said Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a Kansas City police spokesperson, in a news release. A silver Honda HRV was turning left onto Carondelet Drive from Wornall when it was struck by the speeding Chrysler, DiMartino said.

Police said the driver and passenger of the Honda were both pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been publicly released.

The driver of the Chrysler was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are working closely with prosecutors to determine applicable charges, DiMartino said.

These are Kansas City’s 95th and 96th traffic fatalities compared to 101 at this time last year, according to police.
