A motorcyclist died in a crash while entering a driveway in Kansas City’s Northland Sunday afternoon, a police spokeswoman said.

The fatal crash occurred about 2:40 p.m. near Northwest Barry Road and North Jefferson Street, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was headed east on Barry Road on a gold Harley Davidson Tri Glide motorcycle and attempted to turn into a private drive in the 500 block of Northwest Barry Road, Gonzalez said.

The motorcycle was going too fast and took too sharp of a turn, causing it to overturn, Gonzalez said. The motorcycle rolled on top of the rider, causing critical injuries.

Emergency medical crews took the rider to a hospital, where the person was pronounced dead.

The motorcyclist’s death is Kansas City’s 94th traffic fatality of the year, which compares to 101 at this time last year.
