Amazon’s Prime Video has released the trailer for “ChiefsAholic: A Wolf in Chief’s Clothing,” a documentary about Kansas City Chiefs superfan and convicted serial bank robber Xaviar Babudar.

The film premieres Dec. 24.

“Known for his exuberant social media presence and iconic wolf costume, Babudar was a beloved figure among Kansas City Chiefs fans,” says a news release about the film. “However, his public persona masked a darker reality.

“After his arrest for a string of Midwest bank robberies, his story took a dramatic turn.

“Through interviews granted by Babudar himself, ‘ChiefsAholic: A Wolf in Chiefs Clothing’ explores critical moments in the events surrounding Babudar’s initial arrest, and offers a firsthand perspective on his subsequent journey.”

Babudar became famous on social media and among Chiefs fans for dressing as a wolf and wearing Chiefs gear. He was a regular fixture at games from 2018 through 2021.

The two-minute trailer sets up his “rock star” status in Chiefs Kingdom and begins by showing a kickoff at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium as an announcer yells: “Chiefs Kingdom, can I hear you out there?”

The trailer shows Chiefs fans discussing what being a superfan means — “they just love, bleed, die Chiefs,” one says.

Then comes footage of Babudar face-down on the pavement, surrounded by cops with guns drawn.

“What’s shocking is the story we don’t know,” a Chiefs fan intones.

Babudar was accused of terrorizing victims at banks and credit unions during a spree of multi-state robberies in 2022 and 2023.

He was sentenced to 17 1/2 years in federal prison in September, just hours before the Chiefs began the 2024-25 NFL season with a game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Prosecutors said Babudar stole nearly $850,000 from banks and credit unions over a 16-month stretch, wielding what appeared to be a gun in many of the robberies.

In court documents, Babudar’s attorney wrote the heists were prompted by debt Babudar had racked up under an “all-consuming” gambling addiction.”

“If he’s addicted to anything, it’s fame,” said assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Daly.

Babudar was arrested in Oklahoma in December 2022 and later released on bond with a GPS monitoring device.

But he removed the ankle monitor, fled and robbed two more banks before he was tracked to California and arrested again in July 2023.

In the documentary, Babudar shows filmmakers the monitor, saying “this is how they’re keepin’ tabs on the wolf, man. Don’t think it hasn’t crossed my mind to just cut my ankle monitor off and go to the Super Bowl.”

After Babudar went on the run, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his brother Jason offered to have him on their “New Heights” podcast.

Travis makes a split-second appearance in the trailer.

The documentary includes interviews with bail bondsman Michael Lloyd, who led the four-month, nationwide manhunt to recapture Babudar.

Law enforcement officials, defense attorneys Matthew Merryman and Frank Frazier, a credit union employee accosted by Babudar during one holdup and “an assortment of diehard Chiefs Kingdom fans who embraced the ChiefsAholic character” are also featured, according to filmmakers.
