Kansas City firefighters rescue over 20 tenants from apartment building

The Kansas City Fire Department responded to a fire just before 6 a.m. at Perry Place Apartments in the 1000 block of East 9th Street. The building has been determined untenantable and 16 people have been displaced.

Kansas City firefighters rescued over 20 people and several pets from a fire Sunday morning.

First responders arrived at 16300 E. 48th Terrace around 8 a.m. and found smoke and flames showing from a three-story apartment, according to a release from the Fire Department.

The department said the fire was a first-alarm blaze, and that six additional ambulances were called to be used as warming shelters. Red Cross was notified for the 16 adults and seven children, the department said in its release.

No injuries were reported. The fire was under control by 8:25 a.m.

The building was labeled as dangerous, and the Fire Department is investigating the blaze.
