Three people were injured when a car crashed into a building in Shawnee on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The Shawnee police and fire departments, along with Johnson County paramedics, responded to the 6700 block of Lackman Road around 2:30 p.m. following reports of a vehicle crash, according to the Shawnee Police Department.

Responding officers discovered a car that had crashed into a tree, the body of the car crumpling against the trunk.

Officers believe that the driver of the car had been experiencing a medical emergency when they swerved off the road and crashed into a pool building for a nearby housing development, then into the tree, according to SPD.

Shawnee firefighters used high-impact rescue tools to extract the driver from the wreckage, police said. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

A passenger in the car, as well as a person who was inside the pool building during the wreck, both suffered minor injuries, Shawnee police said.
