One person is dead after a vehicle rolled and vaulted a dirt mound in Kansas City

One person is dead after their vehicle vaulted over a dirt mound and rolled into a truck in Kansas Cityon Saturday.

A silver Chevrolet Trailblazer was speeding east on 47th Street near the Appleton Avenue intersection around 1:40 p.m. when it ran off the roadway on the right and drove through a drainage ditch, overturning several times, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, a spokesperson with the Kansas City Police Department.

As the Chevrolet overturned, it vaulted over a large dirt mound and continued rolling eastbound across Appleton before it struck an unoccupied red Ford F150 parked in a driveway and anunoccupied residence.

The unrestrained driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

This fatality marks the 85th this year compared to 90 this time last year, according to data tracked by the police department. The investigation is ongoing.
