A man is dead following a shooting inside a Lee’s Summit home Friday morning, according to police.

The Lee’s Summit Police Department responded to the 2100 block of SW Rutherford Drive around 8 a.m. Friday on reports of a shooting, according to spokesperson Sgt. Chris Depue.

Responding officers discovered the man inside the home with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene, according to Depue.

A suspect in the shooting fled the home before police arrived, Depue said, but surrendered himself to police custody several hours later.

Police declined to release the victim’s name Friday, as police work to notify the victim’s family.
