Vehicle strikes Grain Valley middle school student at school bus stop, injuring the child
A Grain Valley middle school student waiting for a school bus Tuesday morning was injured after being struck by a vehicle, a police spokesperson said.
The crash involving a pedestrian occurred about 7:25 a.m. on Northwest Woodbury Drive, west of South Buckner Tarsney Road, said Tiffany Lor, a spokesperson for the Grain Valley Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed that as the Grain Valley North Middle School student was waiting for a school bus to arrive, the driver of the vehicle ran off the road and hit the child, Lor said. Emergency crews took the child to a hospital to be evaluated.
The child was in stable condition, although tests were still underway. Lor said the child was responsive and had no head or spinal injuries.
The driver remained at the crash scene and was cooperating with the investigation, Lor said.
Police were working with the Grain Valley school district to investigate the crash and to make sure the child’s family and fellow students were receiving emotional support.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
