Man pleads guilty in killing of 9-year-old Lenexa boy in DUI crash in Shawnee
A Kansas City, Kansas, man charged with the killing of a 9-year-old Lenexa boy in a fatal crash in December pleaded guilty to a pair of charges Friday.
Matthew Jacobo pleaded guilty in Johnson County District Court to reckless second-degree murder and leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, prosecutors said. He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 7.
The crash, which occurred near Johnson Drive and Bell Road in Shawnee, resulted in the death of 9-year-old Nolan Davidson. In the collision, a truck driven by Jacobo struck the vehicle Davidson was riding in. Jacobo fled the scene, but was located with the help of a police dog.
Davidson died a few days after the crash.
Jacobo had been charged with second-degree murder, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of a firearm while driving under the influence.
A wrongful death lawsuit Davidson’s family filed against Jacobo was settled in May, according to court records.
