Excuse us for doing a spit take when we saw the title of Kaley Cuoco’s new HBO series.

According to an exclusive report this week from Deadline, the “comedy with heart” will be called “Kansas City Star.”

Wait, what?

No one told us here at The Kansas City Star — the OG.

“In a bidding situation, HBO has landed one of the highest profile comedy packages to hit the marketplace in awhile,” Deadline reported.

Cuoco will headline and executive produce the show with Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky, the creators and executive producers of Max’s popular “Hacks.” The series won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series this year.

The half-hour show’s premise: Cuoco is “a semi-famous actress who returns to her hometown to work with a regional theater troupe.”

This would be the fourth new comedy series ordered by HBO in the last six months, Deadline says.

Cuoco played Penny for 12 seasons on “The Big Bang Theory,” which ended in May 2019.

Since then she has starred in Max’s “The Flight Attendant,” which earned her two consecutive Emmy acting nominations, and the dark comedy “Based On a True Story,” which begins its second season on Peacock on Nov. 21.

She also produces and voices the main character on the animated series “Harley Quinn.”

A quick Google search to find out if Cuoco, or any of the show’s other creators, have ties to Kansas City turned up nothing. So we will wait to find out how a show likely to be filmed in Burbank, California, will depict our fair city.

Don’t forget, Hollywood: There are two Kansas Cities.
