Shots fired near Kansas City fire truck while it was heading to medical call
A Kansas City Fire Department pumper truck drove into the vicinity of gunfire while heading to a call Wednesday, a spokesman for the department said.
No injuries to first responders were reported. Police are investigating.
The truck was responding to a medical call at the intersection of 55th Street and Prospect Avenue shortly before noon Wednesday when it drove into the vicinity of gunfire near 53rd Street and Prospect Avenue, said Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins, a spokesman for the fire department.
An ambulance responding with the truck continued on and handled the call, Hopkins said.
Police determined there was an exchange of gunfire between people in the area of 52nd Street and Prospect Avenue, and responding fire personnel believed their vehicle had been struck, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department. Police had not found damage to the vehicle as of mid-afternoon, she said.
The incident was assigned to a detective, and an investigation was ongoing, Gonzalez said.
