Police are investigating the death of a 7-year-old child in Independence, a police spokeswoman said Thursday.

The death occurred in the evening hours of Wednesday in the area of 32nd Street and Crysler Avenue, said Officer Kelley Rupert, with the Independence Police Department, in a statement Thursday morning.

First responders were called to the area around 8 p.m. Wednesday, the department said in an initial social media post about the death, noting then that there was no danger to the public.

Police tape was put up at a home at the intersection along Crysler Avenue where investigators could be seen working Thursday.

Rupert did not respond to requests for more information, and no other information about the investigation or the circumstances of the death was made available by the department Thursday.
