Person pulled from submerged car during Missouri River water rescue
Platte County emergency responders pulled a driver whose vehicle had gone into the Missouri River out of the water Thursday afternoon.
Personnel with the Parkville Police Department and Southern Platte Fire Protection District responded to English Landing Park around 1:25 p.m. in response to a call for a water rescue, said Southern Platte battalion chief Dustin Mains. Upon arrival, responders saw a red car in the river.
Two rescue swimmers were dispatched to the sunken car, Mains said. The swimmers were able to pull the car’s sole occupant out of the car and out of the water.
Emergency responders took the passenger to a hospital, performing CPR along the way, Mains said. The rescued person’s status was not immediately known to Southern Platte FPD.
The Parkville Police Department declined to comment on the rescue or the status of the driver. However, officers told the Platte County Landmark that the person pulled from the water had been pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Ten people have died in accidents on Missouri rivers since August, according to data collected by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
