Taylor Swift fans think DeAndre Hopkins used ’22’ as hint to signing with Chiefs

Did DeAndre Hopkins drop a hint a few days ago that he was about to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs? And did he use a Taylor Swift song to do it?

Swifties are in full conspiracy mode after seeing a video the wide receiver posted on Sunday showing his family in a car rocking out to Swift’s song “22.”

Swift is famously dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The caption was just three words: “Rumor has it.”

The first comment on the post was just two words: “Kansas City?”

The news broke Wednesday morning that the Chiefs and Tennessee Titans are finalizing a deal that would bring Hopkins, 32, to the defending Super Bowl champions.

The five-time Pro Bowl and three-time All-Pro receiver is in his 12th NFL season.

In another photo with the post, Hopkins is wheeling a suitcase on a tarmac. A man on the move.

It took nanoseconds for his followers to start trying to connect dots.

“DHop listening to T Swift = DHop to Chiefs,” wrote one.

One worried Titans fan wrote that Hopkins was “scaring” fans by hinting at a possible trade.

Fans were confident that Hopkins was teasing at the deal.

“The song, the red bandanna… homie really just pulled a Taylor and gave us Easter Eggs I LOVE IT HAHAHAHA,” one fan wrote on Instagram, referencing a photo in the post showing Hopkins driving a red convertible with a bandanna tied to the mirror.

“Deandre Hopkins posted his family dancing to ‘22’ by Taylor Swift, with the caption ‘rumor has it,’ just 4 days ago,” tweeted Chiefs podcaster Lexi Osborne on X after news of the deal became public.

Alas, it turns out that video was not a hint of a coming trade to the Chiefs.

(So maybe now Swifties can stop kicking themselves on social media for missing a clue?)

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport said the Chiefs and Titans only began talking about a deal before midnight Tuesday and talks continued into Wednesday morning.

“This has been a long-rumored trade but listen to how fast it happened,” Rapoport said Wednesday on “Good Morning Football.”

“It has been nothing but rumors til, I would say, about midnight last night Kansas City time. The two sides got together, they kind of threw hypotheticals back and forth. By about 5 or 6 in the morning today it became clear that a deal would happen.”

But, hey, at the very least, it’s another Swiftie on the Chiefs’ roster. When asked, Kelce’s teammates have all talked about how much they have enjoyed their interactions with Swift.

Because of the song’s title, some fans wondered whether Hopkins could wind up in a No. 22 Chiefs jersey.

But that already belongs to Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie.

Chiefs fans rushed to Hopkins’ Instagram post to welcome him to Chiefs Kingdom.

And now Swifties hope that the little girl in the video, who clearly knows all the words to “22,” will get to meet Swift.

Can the Chiefs make that part of the deal?
