Overland Park police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman late Wednesday morning.

Officers were called shortly before 11 a.m. to a wooded area near a homeless encampment at 101st Street and Metcalf Avenue, where a woman reported she was sexually assaulted. The suspect had already fled the scene when officers arrived, according to John Lacy, Overland Park police spokesperson.

The suspect is described as a white man in his forties, with brown hair and a stubble type beard, last seen wearing blue jeans. Anyone who believes they have see him is asked to call 911. Lacy said the victim may be familiar with the suspect.

Police continued to canvass the area while the victim received treatment at a hospital Wednesday.
