Missouri 291 bridge to reopen Thursday

Missouri Department of Transportation

The northbound Missouri 291 bridge over the Missouri River in Sugar Creek will reopen Thursday.

State highway officials closed the bridge in May after a routine inspection revealed corrosion that threatened the integrity of the bridge’s trusses.

The bridge, built in 1949, routinely carried about 11,000 vehicles a day. Its closing meant that about 22,000 motorists traveling both northbound and southbound everyday used the southbound Missouri 291 bridge.

Authorities estimate that the northbound bridge will reopen Thursday afternoon, after crews finish re-striping work.
