One person died after a roll-over crash on Interstate 70 in Kansas City Tuesday.

Officers responded around 12:30 a.m. to a reported collision with victims suffering life-threatening injuries. Police said a blue Audi A5 was traveling east on I-70 at a very high rate of speed before the crash.

Near the intersection of I-70 and Prospect Avenue, the Audi failed to turn at a curve in the highway, traveled off the right side of the road and overturned multiple times.

An unrestrained driver and sole passenger were ejected from the vehicle. The driver was transported to a hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

In a news release, Kansas City Police spokesman Capt. Jake Becchina said the death is the 75th traffic fatality in 2024. At this time last year, Becchina said, there were 78 traffic fatalities.

Police have not yet provided a gender or identity of the victim. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
