A Kansas City man has been charged with felony child abuse, accused of causing serious physical injury to a three-month-old girl.

Johnny Christopher Bonacorso, 29, allegedly abused the baby while she was in his care on Sunday. Court records indicate that the child is alive but sustained serious injuries.

Bonacorso pleaded not guilty Monday to the charge of child abuse, according to court records.

Bonacorso has been banned from having any contact with the infant or her mother. He is currently being held in the Clay County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond and will next appear in court at 1:15 p.m. Oct. 15.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
