Video shows ‘scared’ Jason Sudeikis hounded by autograph seekers outside LA comedy club
Jason Sudeikis had a scary encounter with overeager autograph hounds outside a comedy club in Los Angeles Saturday night, according to a video posted by TMZ.
The video was taken by someone in a scrum of people following the “Ted Lasso” star down a darkened sidewalk toward a parking garage.
About 15 to 20 people had waited about three hours for him outside the Dynasty Typewriter Comedy Club, eyewitnesses told the gossip site.
It’s possible — actually, likely — they were professional autograph hounds, known as “graphers” who hunt celebrities for their signatures to resell. They wait, ready to pounce, outside restaurants, movie theaters, red carpet events, airports, TV studios and anywhere they catch a whiff of celebrity activity.
Sudeikis reportedly signed a couple of autographs when he came out of the club, but then the group began following him to his car, TMZ reported.
The video shows one man walking right next to him for a few feet down the sidewalk before the actor stops and addresses the others following him.
“Please stop, stop, I’m not going to sign anything, OK. I really have to go. I’m sorry,” Sudeikis tells them, clearly frustrated. “That was a lot. That scared the s— out of me. For real. I’m just a human being.
“Please stop. Please. I’m going home. Good night. I’m sorry.”
Even as he’s turning and walking away, they keep chattering at him.
The encounter comes just weeks after Missouri native Chappell Roan publicly complained about people stalking and harassing her, yelling at her on the street and getting angry when she refuses to be photographed with them.
On Friday the pop star canceled music festival appearances at the last minute, citing “pressures” in recent weeks. She caught flack over her decision to not endorse a candidate in the presidential election. She eventually said she would vote for Kamala Harris, but withheld an endorsement.
It’s unclear when she will return to performing.
Sudeikis appears to be backing Harris, too.
The former “Saturday Night Live” star, who grew up in Overland Park and co-hosts Kansas City’s annual Big Slick charity event, was seen wearing a “Harris & Walz” T-shirt at a New York Liberty WNBA game at the Barclays Center last week.
“Jason Sudeikis appears to me debuting a new shirt which features references to the Presidential ticket of Harris and Walz alongside the Liberty,” tweeted sports journalist Jackie Powell on X. “The text in seafoam ... reads Harris & Walz & Joy & Liberty.”
