California man charged with murder in car crash that killed woman in Lenexa
A California man has been charged with murder in a a fatal car crash in Lenexa over the weekend, police said.
Vincente F. Perez, 31, of Barstow, California, was charged in Johnson County Monday with second-degree murder, driving under the influence, transporting an open container of alcohol and driving with a suspended license, according to the Lenexa Police Department.
Perez was driving a Subaru WRX east on College Boulevard in Lenexa around 5:30 p.m. Saturday when and is accused of rear-ending a Nissan Altima, according to Lenexa police. The force of the crash sent both vehicles off the roadway.
The crash killed 71-year-old Susan Cameron, a Lenexa resident who had been a passenger in the Altima. Both Perez and the driver of the Altima were hospitalized with injuries, though Perez was discharged Saturday night.
Perez is being held by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office on a $750,000 bond. He will next appear in court at 9 a.m. on Sept. 19 for a preliminary hearing.
