An Olathe man has been charged with sexually abusing and molesting a child in his home for upwards of a year, in his second instance of alleged child sexual abuse, according to a lawsuit filed in Johnson County court last week.

Jason Jerrod Barrett, 43, a former Olathe School District paraprofessional, is accused of repeated inappropriate sexual contact with the child over the course of a year, according to the lawsuit. This is the second time this year Barrett has been accused of child sexual crimes in Johnson County court.

Barrett worked for the Olathe School District as a special education paraprofessional from 2003 to 2005, and again from August 2009 to May 2023.

The suit was brought by the child’s guardian on behalf of the child, who is not named in court documents due to his age.

The lawsuit also names Olathe businesses KVC Health Systems and KVC Foundations Inc., for their alleged role in bringing Barrett into contact with the child.

The alleged abuse took place consistently throughout 2023, according to court documents. Throughout the instances of alleged abuse, the child feared for his physical well-being, according to the lawsuit. The suit also alleges that KVC was aware Barrett had a history of similar behavior before facilitating a relationship between Barrett and the child.

The child and his guardian are seeking upwards of $75,000 in damages from a jury trial.

The previous set of allegations against Barrett were filed in criminal court on June 28. Barrett was charged with aggravated indecent liberties with a child and one count of furnishing intoxicants to a minor, both in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred on Sept. 29, 2023.

On that day, court documents allege that Barrett inappropriately touched a minor between 14 and 16 years of age after providing them with alcohol.
